Moon is waxing
Over the spitting pit of freckle embers,
As the hand clenches the mala.
I played the game of
Burning Stones,
And now my hands are
Full of blisters.
Though they’ve healed over now,
And become
Callouses,
In the night I can
Still feel them covering me,
Burning.
A blue fire,
Wrapping my fingers.
I don’t use the dead-witch-hand
For games anymore.
I no longer enjoy them.
Blue fire kills
All the joy a child
Finds in frivolity.
I use it to stoke
My own fires,
And to sharpen
A blade
I’ll use one day
To skin the beast.
